  • Products with labels with the words “caution” “warning” “danger” “poison”
  • Paints and stains
  • Septic field/drain cleaners, oven cleaners
  • Gasoline, kerosene and other fuels
  • Automotive oil
  • Pool and spa chemicals
  • Pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and poisons for home use
  • Antifreeze and other automotive fluids
  • Thinners and solvents
  • Household cleaners and disinfectants
  • Art and hobby chemicals
  • Aerosol spray products
  • Propane tanks or bottles from barbeque grills
  • Fluorescent lamps and compact fluorescent bulbs
  • Thermostats and thermometers
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Household batteries: rechargeable, lithium, ni-cad, alkaline, and lead-acid batteries
  • E-Waste (computers, monitors, laptops/tablets, printers, mice, keyboards and televisions)
  • Cell phones
  • Medicines  (There are also drop sites at Hood River County Sheriff’s Dept, The Dalles Police Dept, and Sherman County Sheriff’s Dept.)

Do NOT bring:

  • Explosives, ammunition (contact local police for disposal options)
  • Asbestos. Instead, contact Wasco Landfill to arrange: (541) 296-4082
  • Sharps. Drop sites at: Hood River Transfer Station, The Dalles Disposal and Moro Medical Center

Asbestos:

All forms of asbestos can be sent to our local Wasco County Landfill. Here is the protocol:

  • Must properly fill out ASN4 Form – a DEQ Asbestos Shipment Report Form (Click Here for Form)
  • Fax that form to Waste Connections (landfill owner) at Fax number: (360)-695-5091
  • Once Waste Connections receives (and approves) that form, you will be contacted with permission to bring the asbestos to that landfill.
  • *You need to double-bag the Asbestos, and preferably ‘wet’ it to reduce the possibility of becoming airborne.
  • Wasco County Landfill hours: Monday-Friday, 7am-4pm.

When transporting: keep products sealed in original containers if possible, and transport in a box or tub in your trunk or in the truck bed. Follow the signage to the collection area. Thank you!
